What Is Abortion Pill Reversal?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A medical abortion involves two separate drugs. The first, mifepristone<\/a> (Mifeprex or RU-486), blocks progesterone<\/a>, the hormone your body needs to sustain a pregnancy. The second, misoprostol<\/a>, is taken one to two days later. It causes the uterus to contract, resulting in cramping and vaginal bleeding as the pregnancy is expelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abortion pill reversal (APR)<\/a> is a protocol that may help continue a pregnancy after mifepristone has been taken. It works by introducing supplemental progesterone into the body to restore the hormone levels that mifepristone blocked, giving the pregnancy the support it needs to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, you will need to connect with a qualified medical provider as quickly as possible. APR is typically most effective when started within 24 hours of taking mifepristone, though some protocols may extend up to 72 hours depending on your situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your provider will review your medical history and current circumstances to determine whether APR may be an option for you. If it is, they will walk you through the progesterone protocol and what to expect as it begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
